not getting much sleep these days

so it's been crazy busy at work these days. i'm actually in plano for the two weeks and we're totally grinding. we've pretty much been staying at the office until 2am every night. it's been super productive and i like this particular set of colleagues which makes an otherwise unbearable situation, bearable. there's something to be said about the camaraderie that's built in time's like these. anyhow, i'm gonna go work out before heading it (rare these days).

the daily bread was good today. here are a couple of snippets.

May the God of all grace, . . . after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. —1 Peter 5:10

In time, He will “perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle” us (1 Peter 5:10). We must “wait on the LORD” and “be of good courage” (Ps. 27:14).  — David H. Roper

new pastor

parkwood has been without a full time pastor for over four years now. after an extended pastoral search, our new pastor peter park will worship with us for the first time tomorrow morning. it's exciting... and different.

on the way home tonight, i was listening to christian radio and heard a couple of songs that i liked. too late right now, but i'll have to sit down and check out the lyrics sometime. christian music has so far since the days of amy grant and michael w. smith. do you remember the song 'baby baby'... ridiculous.

brandon heath "give me your eyes" - catchy tune. not the original video (embedding disabled)

phil wickham "divine romance" - i like this one as well.

so easy to get spoiled

i'm back at the doubletree again, and there was no room upgrade available. apparently, it's homecoming here and the hotel has been sold out. the room is still nice, but there is no king sized bed, no fireplace, and no whirlpool. quite the bummer. this week, i had brought along a library book to enjoy in the bath. libraries rock!!! i used to love going to the library when i was a kid. i'd come back with stacks of books, 15-20 at a time. we'll see, perhaps i'll take a bath in my sad normal tub... doubtful. not gonna be able to spread out and sleep diagonally either. like i said, it's so easy to get spoiled.

my suspicion last night was correct, my lower back was mildly sore this morning. however, i still made my way to the gym for some lifting. came back, at some dinner and did a little more lifting while watching monday night football. it wasn't a pretty week for my fantasy football league. oh well. sadly, i already have four more wins than i did last season... lol.

i've had a very pleasant sunday. seems like they've been pretty few and far between as of late so it was nice. anyhow, it started with playing bass for worship. it's always a pleasure to play bass at parkwood. i was familiar with many of the songs in our set so i was able to sing. for one of the songs, i was even harmonizing... haha.

anyhow, service, did a bit of errand running on the way home; shoe shopping to be specific. oh how i abhor shopping for my own clothing. after a trip to nordstrom and dsw, i came away emptyhanded... how discouraging. i did some surfing online for shoe sales. i was able to find a couple of pairs that i like (got a second opinion b/c my fashion sense is garbage) that were on sale!!! thank goodness for columbus day. free delivery and return shipping was a nice score as well.

had some ribs that i had cooked last night (fresh ground pepper, salt, a generous sprinkling of paprika and basted with bbq sauce) for dinner. they were fantastic. then i went to gym to work out and play volleyball. ended up runnning 3.5 miles on the treadmill (more of a jog than anything else, but it's been a while and you have to start somewhere). volleyball tonight was excellent. two guys and a gal that had played college ball showed up to play tonight (a couple of them were definitely holding back so that no one else would get hurt... haha.). as a result, passing and setting in general was much better. in general, good passing makes setting so much easier. and good setting certainly helps with the hitting. anyhow, my passing still left a lot to be desired, but my setting and hitting was on tonight. in general, the speed of the game was much faster. fun, fun, fun. my lower back is gonna be wrecked tomorrow morning. oh well. to end my day at the gym, i did some light lifting.

came home and ate again. why not? and did some reading before bed.

it's recently become cold enough to bust out my long pajama pants. it's so very nice to sit around in them on a cool fall evening; i love them. they're so comfortable. it's a bit shameless, but i'll wear them around the hotel if i'm picking up food from the attached TGI Fridays.
